WPRI – Historical Hurricane Data Tracker
Client: WPRI / Lin Media
The Historical Hurricane Data Tracker is a web application that displays hurricane storm-paths on a Google Map. The storm data is pulled from an API provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The application converts N.O.A.A.’s storm data (which dates back to 1900 and covers all oceanic basins) into JSON data files. Those files are read and displayed in a front-end map interface. Users can filter storms by year and oceanic basin.
This was developed for WPRI / Lin Media while I worked there as a Web Developer and was used by various station markets during hurricane season as supplemental web content. This project is no longer available on WPRI.com but is presented here for reference.
